Smart Carbon Farming Makes Strides at Multitel Meeting

A two-day meeting hosted by Multitel brought together our partners to foster stronger partnerships, align activities, and advance critical project elements, particularly around technology for carbon measurement and verification.

Multitel, the project’s lead partner, played a central role in the event, providing insight into the organisation’s technical expertise with an engaging presentation and tour of their facilities. Their leadership set the tone for a collaborative atmosphere, with partners exchanging knowledge on how to best drive carbon farming initiatives across Europe.

One of the key discussions revolved around the newly adopted EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework, which aims to provide clear standards for carbon farming practices and ensure transparency in carbon markets. Partners examined how this framework could be integrated into their work, especially in relation to existing challenges around farmer engagement, policy alignment, and business models for rewarding carbon sequestration.

Participants also took the opportunity to reflect on lessons from previous projects and explored the use of innovative MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) technologies. From satellite monitoring to advanced remote sensing tools, the focus was on making carbon measurement more precise and scalable. These technological advancements are seen as crucial to the project's success, as they will enable more accurate reporting of carbon capture efforts at the farm level.

The meeting concluded with a co-creation workshop, where partners collaborated on a pilot implementation plan. By mid-2025, they aim to select farms for testing new carbon farming techniques, with close coordination between technical and agricultural experts.

The event marked a significant step forward in European carbon farming initiatives, and the discussions reinforced the shared commitment to developing innovative, scalable solutions that can help farmers future-proof their land and gain a competitive edge while also contributing to Europe’s climate goals.
