MARVIC is a Horizon Europe Soil Mission project, launched in June 2023 to support the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF) regulation, a crucial step in scaling up carbon removal activities and boost faith in European carbon farming schemes.
The project is hosting a series of webinars to disseminate project outcomes, progress in the MARVIC test cases, and the state-of-the-art of the respective fields of expertise, targeting scientific and policy experts.
Join their next webinar on the 19th of November 2024 11:00 - 12:00 CET on "Carbon farming: addressing the risk of double counting in Europe"!
Details
One of the 3 main quality criteria in climate reporting and climate finance is the avoidance of double counts : a climate benefit can’t be claimed, accounted for, or sold twice. Respecting this rule may be very complex in agriculture where most of farmers sell to many clients who each have their own climate reporting strategy, where traceability is often a challenge and where one single action can have an impact on both GHG emissions and carbon removals on many crops. From a real-case example backed by theoretical ground analysis, this webinar will illustrate the different double counts risks and solutions in agriculture, shed light on the “contribution” concept (what does it allow to do in carbon reporting and carbon business, and what it should not) in the context of a continent committed to the most ambitious carbon farming public strategy.
