Join Smart Carbon Farming at the European Carbon Farming Summit 2026

This year, the Smart Carbon Farming (SCF) project partners will be actively contributing to the European Carbon Farming Summit with five sessions and two posters, bringing together partners, farmers, researchers, and policymakers to explore how carbon farming can deliver real impact across Europe.

From governance and finance to cutting-edge technology and farmer-led innovation, our sessions aim to bridge the gap between ambition and action, grounding carbon farming in practical solutions that work on the ground.

From Ambition to Action: Adaptive Governance Systems Supporting Smart and Inclusive Carbon Farming

Organised with: Hanze University of Applied Sciences, AgroParisTech, Carbonica project

Our programme kicks off with an interactive workshop on adaptive governance systems, co-organised with leading European partners. This session will explore how policy, markets, and local practice can be better aligned to support inclusive and climate-resilient carbon farming, ensuring that systems are not only effective, but also fair and trusted.

How Smart Carbon Farming Can Build the Path for Agriculture in Wetlands

Organised with: University of Greifswald, HumusGuru GmbH, Green Restoration Ireland, AC3A

Smart Carbon Farming will also explore the future of wetland and peatland agriculture, highlighting how wetter farming systems can reduce emissions, enable carbon removals, and create new economic opportunities. Through interactive formats, participants will step into the role of future farmers to examine how these systems can scale within European policy frameworks.

SCF-TRUSTAI 2026: Artificial Intelligence for Trustworthy Soil Carbon Monitoring and Informed Investment Decisions

Organised with: Multitel, Regrow Ag

Another session will dive into the role of artificial intelligence in soil carbon monitoring, showcasing how advanced MRV approaches can turn environmental outcomes into credible investment decisions. Participants will explore how data (from remote sensing to in-field measurements) can support robust, transparent carbon accounting and unlock finance for farmers.

Bridging the Gap: Farmer-Led Innovations as True Game-Changers

Organised with: European Agroforestry Federation (EURAF), Ver de Terre Production (VDT) Agroecology Europe ( AAEE)

Across the programme, one message remains clear: farmers are at the heart of the transition. A dedicated session will highlight farmer-led innovation, showcasing how agroecological practices are already driving change, often without being labelled as carbon farming. By focusing on real experiences, peer learning, and inclusive engagement, the session aims to reconnect policy discussions with on-the-ground realities.

Approaches to Designing Regional Carbon Certification Schemes

Organised with: EIT Food (on behalf of Veneto Agricoltura), ChrysaLabs, IRTA, FiBL, ZLTO

Finally, SCF will contribute to discussions on regional carbon certification schemes, sharing lessons from across Europe and beyond. By comparing approaches to monitoring, governance, and remuneration, the session will explore how to build trustworthy, locally adapted carbon markets that work for farmers, policymakers, and businesses alike.

Posters: from technology to trust

Alongside these sessions, SCF will present two posters showcasing key project insights:

Building an AI-enabled framework for soil carbon monitoring

Organised with: Multitel - Research & Technology Innovation Center (Belgium)

Matchmaking Farmers & Investors: Building Trust-Based Carbon Value Chains for Scalable, Verified, and Insured CO₂ Removals

Organised with: tgo AG, Oost NL, and CREDIBLE Consortium Partners
